I grew up mostly in the beautiful town of Joensuu, Finland. After many years of study, including visiting scholarships at Florida State University, University of Pittsburgh, and UNC Chapel Hill, I received my PhD at the University of Helsinki in 2008. By then, I had already started working as a Teaching Fellow at the University of St Andrews. After St Andrews, I did an all too brief stint as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Amsterdam. I then took up an Assistant Professorship at Trinity College Dublin in 2010, which I left for an Academy of Finland Fellowship at Tampere in 2015. I count myself very lucky for having had the opportunity to participate in academia in so many great places in many different roles, and to get to know lots of excellent teachers and students.
In the winter of 2018, I moved back to Helsinki with my wife, son, and daughter.
When I get the chance, I like to play the electric guitar (I can't play acoustic).
